Savannah: Tybee Beach

Steve has the whole month of May off so we decided to sneak off for a small vacation. Last year we went to Charleston so this year we went to Savannah. The drive down was pretty easy, only about 4 hours. Henry was so excited he kept repeating over and over "Splash at the beach, Dada, Mama, Hehe, Splash at the beach." This kid loves the beach, well he loves the sand.
We stayed at a hotel on Tybee Island the first night and spent all afternoon on the sand. We opted for this since Steve doesn't really care for the beach so I could be down by the water with Henry and Steve could hang out in our room without having to be sitting in the car in a parking lot. You know it sounds funny, but it worked out great. Steve later joined us for the last part of the day.
Henry was a little better than the last time we went to the beach in Florida. He still wanted to have nothing to do with the water unless it was in a puddle we dug. I can't really complain because it sure made watching him easy.
Here he is filling is new sand truck. Always busy. Before leaving the beach, a huge gust of wind threw our neighbors beach umbrella into the sky and it landed on Henry. The pole went into the ground right by him and he was surrounded by the umbrella part. We don't think it actually hit him, it just covered him. Of course he was hysterical but not enough to leave the beach. Thinking back now, its pretty funny.
I preferred to just sit back and relax unless I was needed to fetch more water, dig holes or build castles. Henry calls it "Make a tower." It started to get gloomy and we saw lightening in the distance so we headed in to shower and find a place to eat.
We ate at Sting Rays for juicy burgers and shrimp sandwiches. Henry had a hot dog. His current favorite food.
After dinner we walked back across to the beach and checked out the pier. While we were on the pier, some guys had caught a shark and pulled it out of the water. It was about three feet and really cool. They later released it back into the ocean.

Our hotel from the pier, right on the beach. The hotel was okay. Nothing special but it was clean and did the trick for one night. Besides the pier and a small collection of restaurants and jersey shore-esque t shirt shops, there is not a lot to do on Tybee Island.

So we went back to the hotel and watched tv while Henry tired himself out and finally passed out on our bed at 10:00. Next up: Savannah.

Looks like fun!! Henry just gets more and more adorable!! It's awesome that he'll dig in the sand for a long time. Noah loved that last summer. That bed spread in the last picture is incredible.
