Random Thoughts-Sunny Style

So we are officially in the swing of things here for winter semester. I guess I should say we're finally in the swing of things since January is almost gone. I love having a schedule and so does Henry. So here are some thoughts I need to unleash from my brain. I can notice when I haven't been blogging aka journaling enough because I become overwhelmed by these tiny little thoughts that just need somewhere to go. And here we go:

-Does anyone else feel bummed when regular scheduled tv shows are interrupted for whatever reason? It was a little sad to peruse hulu and find no new shows for the week. Sad.

-We were at Barnes and Noble the other day and I started flipping through this book and I am obsessed. If you need clever but aesthetically pleasing ideas for kids crafts and projects, this is the book for you. So awesome. Mid century design meets kid friendly things. Plus you get to learn about notable artists and architects from history. I think I might be buying this soon.

-I never told you guys my new year's resolutions. Partly because I don't want to blatantly fail out here on the internet and partly because I am lazy. So far I have made valiant efforts at being healthier (22 points a day!) and working out (wii fit rocks!) and eating dinner at the table instead of on the couch watching tv. I'm also reading more and Henry and I attend story time at the library as a new outlet for learning and social interaction. Its been great. So we'll see how far I continue but if you happen to see me in a few months time and don't look any fitter, please don't say anything.

-I have been developing lots of new designs for my shop. I am really excited about this as I love doing new things. I have been playing with lots of different textiles and some things that are a little more abstract. So check it out. This is one of my new faves, the Penelope Pillow Cover. Why Penelope? because burnt edged ruffled abstract design pillow cover just seemed like too much of a title. Don't you think? And no I didn't mean for the picture to be so HUGE!

-It is warm here. Like really pleasant. Yesterday I sat outside reading on our deck with an iced beverage. The sun was shining and I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I also experienced that momentary blindness you get from being outside in the sun and then coming inside where it feels like a cave. Today I am going for a walk. Hooray for lovely weather and being outside in it.

-Steve officially received his Master's Thesis in the mail and his diploma. So proud of my especially studious husband!

-Henry finally got his first tooth! 13 months. He is doing pretty well with it. Sleeps through the night and everything. Do we have the dream child or what? He also officially weighs 20 lbs now so he can front face in his brand new big boy car seat. On the way to church today he was loving it-well to be honest he looked a little dubious but he'll learn to love it. He looks like such a grown up little man in it, its startling. Where is my baby boy? Well, I''ll tell you where he is. He is in his crib with his leg stuck between the rails wailing. A baby still with nap time ruined. That's Sunday for you.

Okay that's it for now. I feel a lot better. More to come this week, including some recent thrift store finds and the prettiest gold $300 shoes. Interest piqued?

Arizona Inspiration

So this is my final post about our trip to Arizona. (I know what you're all thinking, stop this madness!) Just kidding. Anyway, I have been super crafty and productive of late and I have lots to show you but for now, one last glimpse at AZ.

The first time I went to Arizona I thought it was one of the ugliest places I'd ever been. I know it is Steve's favorite place but seriously, the desert is just not my thing. I did enjoy seeing live cacti up close and that's about it.

Well this time I really had more time to enjoy it and see past all the brown. Since the weather was so nice I was able to go for plenty of walks and there is something about slowing down and walking that really alerts your aesthetic to things that you are blind to while driving. While this is true in any location, it is especially true in Tempe. For the first time I noticed how beautiful the desert can be. Bright blue skies, terra cotta stucco and red bushes. Vibrant green cacti with white accents. Subtleties in pale green and tan. It was lovely. What I also noticed was the best looking yards and landscapes tried to utilize the natural elements of the desert. They weren't trying to fool anyone into thinking we're not in Arizona anymore. I mean who are you kidding. Although green grass always looks so alive, dead grass just looks sad.

Henry: The Pianist

Henry loved Nana's piano. The funny thing was he probably thought he was doing something wrong but he wasn't. Like he was up to no good. Being a monster. But we all thought it was adorable.

Doesn't he look so tiny?

Henry's Friends Dance

Do you think we watch Friends too much? Or do you think Henry just loves to dance?

Sorry about my shaky camera skills.

Kyrene del Norte

The weather was gorgeous for the first half of our trip so daily walks were a necessity. One day we walked over to Steve's elementary school and did a little swinging. I tried to get a nice silhouette with the setting sun in the background. Hard to do with the movement of the swing but I love the way the first shot turned out. And I realize I always show pictures of Henry swinging but its just so easy to get him to smile this way without the binky in his mouth.

These pictures make me miss spring.

I Think I'm in Love

I spotted this on etsy the other day and just thought it was too perfect not to share. Maybe it is how I would like to envision Steve and I's relationship.

This might have to be purchased. Print by etsy seller rosiemusic.

This one is probably more realistic though. Sad.

Have a great weekend everyone. Three days!

Christmas in Arizona

Christmas morning brought a late start due to Henry being the only child and since he didn't know what was going on, we got to sleep in, shower and get dressed in red.
Henry was spoiled rotten with lots of toys and clothes and puffs from Santa and grandparents and parents. In return, he got Steve and I Inception.
Christmas brought me new clothes and shoes and Step Up 3. And a stocking full of candy and diet coke.
Christmas brought Steve movies, a new tie and most importantly NBA Jam for Wii.
Christmas also brought Jello with raspberries and lots more time with family.
Some of that time included watching Uncle Steve play Wii. And then fighting over who got to play bowling.
Ah, Christmas!

Snow Day(s)

So it snowed in Georgia when we were in Arizona. Steve was upset because he loves the snow and didn't want to miss it. Well we got 3-4 inches on Sunday night and everything has pretty much been shut down since. *We haven't left the house once except to investigate the parking lot and check the mail. We've been hanging out, watching movies and playing games.

School has been cancelled for 3 days. We're not in Utah anymore.

*I wrote this yesterday and afterwards we went to Walmart and the place was empty. No milk. No meat. Almost no bread. It was pandemonium. And since we just moved here our food storage isn't that great, I mean we have plenty of food because I stocked up last week but seriously. Task for after storm: stock up.

Henry's 1st Birthday

Henry turned one on December 18th. We started the day with lots of fun balloons in his pack n play. I love how tired he was and had no clue what was going on. Balloons of course lead to static hair. Then we went to spend the afternoon at Steve's sister Emily's house. All the family currently living in Arizona was able to come see their new baby and celebrate with us. We kept the festivities to a minimum, simple chocolate cup cakes and a few gifts to open.Fascinated by the flame!Lots of familyFirst tentative frosting tastes and then ...

As you saw in the video, Henry tends to cry when everyone is making a big deal out of him and laughing at him. But he loved the cupcake and ate the whole thing. And what birthday would be complete without a wagon ride with his cousins. You can't really see here but he loved the wagon
I can't believe Henry is one year old. Its crazy how much he has changed and how much a part of our lives he has become.

Currently he weighs 20 lbs and still has no teeth. Not a single tooth! He is an accomplished cruiser and speedy crawler. He can play peek-a-boo with you and has been known to charm elderly ladies with this technique at church. He is still a good eater except lettuce which he will find and throw on the floor in defiance. Oh yeah and he throws food on the floor now which kind of stinks but is funny too. Overall he is just a good baby and we're happy he is with us.

Hungry for the Games

Where have I been? Vacationing in Arizona, eating too much, and reading all the Hunger Games books. That is why I haven't updated for a few days. I am sucked in and have 200 pages left. So you'll just have to wait to see amazing footage of Henry's first birthday cupcake and all our trip details.

Does anyone else get into a kind of trance when they read a series like Harry Potter or the Hunger Games? I get so sucked in that real life seems drab, I'm easily irritated and then when it is over I am slightly depressed. And the funk takes a couple of days to go away. Anyone else?

I was going to savor this last book but maybe I should just go finish right now so Steve can have a friendlier living companion. Bye.
