Fall Decorating!

I decorated the apartment for fall and I love how fun and festive it is. This really is a fantastic season. Sorry if you live somewhere where fall doesn't exist.
Here are just a few of the best parts.
Mini pie pumpkin in a candy dish and pretty orange decorative fill that smells like pumpkin pie. Typically I don't like potpourri but I just really liked this stuff.

Wreath I made from grapevine, berry picks and a bunch of leaves I cut up. All for $10! And note my fall tree painting that looks so at home next to the wreath. Yeah Fall!!!

Fleur di lis

I couldn't help but post about this awesome necklace I found at Target for $1. Its a Fleur Di Lis and they had other designs in the $1 spot. Check it out and ignore the mess in the picture behind me.

Snow On the Mountains!

Timp has snow on it! What a wonderful surprise this morning--actually I got all nervous because that means icy roads and snow drifts soon but we still have a couple of months. Oh and this isn't my picture because I didn't have my camera.

So this weekend I decorated for fall but didn't have a chance to take pictures because my camera battery was dead. So check back tomorrow for pictures, the apartment looks very fun and festive and orange.

This weekend was good. We pretty much just hung out, watched the Simpson's, visited some friends, ate ice cream, I painted and Steve studied. We also helped a neighbor move which was fun. I haven't done service for a pathetic amount of time. Oh and I sold my first pillow! Yeah!

4 days til FALL

So I have been so excited about fall starting. For once we're not stinking hot in our apartment, the heat has FINALLY broken and I wore a jacket yesterday to work. I can't wait to wear sweatshirts, layers and boots. Fall means football, crisp mornings, halloween costumes, the red mountain sides and chili. Plus its time to start thinking about the upcoming holidays which of course means baking and decorating. Steve and I walked to Barnes and Noble on Tuesday and I practically devoured the new Martha Holiday Issue of Good and Bad Things for more on that go here. I was giddy with excitement and last night I did the first of my traditional baking, pumpkin bread. My mom has the BEST recipe for it, find it here. Yum. I always make a triple batch and one loaf with chocolate chips-this time I used the Nestle Mini Chips and they were perfect. You bet I'm eating it for breakfast.

Also in celebration of fall I'm wearing my favorite orange shirt.
And I painted these pretty fall foliage trees. I don't know who doesn't just love fall.

Acrylic Vs Oil

If you read my other blog you would know that I picked up painting again after a year hiatus. I ordered some acrylics and canvases from ASW and took advantage of their back to school sale. I have never touched acrylic before and was hesitant since I loved oil so much.
The debate is still open in my mind although acrylic dries so fast and cleans up so easily, the user friendly aspect is very appealing to me. Yesterday was a lazy, a little odd, Sunday so I decided to paint. And this is what I came up with just for fun. It really is so relaxing and enjoyable for me. I still marvel that with just a few tubes of color the whole spectrum is possible.
Fiery bubbly red inspired by Seurat and the upcoming fall season. Oh and my love for polka dots
Simple little pear on a deeply purple-y pink background. Of course this is for the kitchen to tie in the curtains and the walls and the green walls.

KT Tunstall

About a year ago I heard one of her songs and fell deeply in love with her voice, sound, etc. Then I heard another song at a mini golf course and it turned out to be heres as well. So, you know, a year later I finally went and bought the cd. Its fantastic. Both dancy and mellow. Her voice is rich and seductive and I you know I'm rocking out right now at my desk.

Home Sweet Home

Last night Steve and I came home and had the lovely experience of being locked out of our apartment after unlocking the door that just wouldn't budge! So Steve crawled in through the living room window and then promptly went to Lowe's to buy a new doorknob. So now we have a shiny new doorknob. Seems like quite the escapade but not for the residents of 359 E 1550 who have had their share of apartment mishaps in the past 7 months

-slow slow stopped drain in tub
-no AC
-broken doorknob
-loud and obnoxious constantly running toilet which we finally just fixed ourselves and was occasionally flooding the bathroom
-broken toilet lid-okay so Steve did this one but still
-1/3" space between front door and door frame
-oh wait is that a freezer? no its our fridge that freezes everything.
-weird hole in wall behind microwave
-no electricity in the bathroom for a couple of months now

And all for the bargain price of $475 a month-so we can't really complain.
I can't wait to see what winter brings
