New York Part 3

The City. I love the City but by the end we were tired of all the people and the expensive prices. Here are some of my favorite pictures we took on the trip.

Trinity Church, Wall St and the New York Stock Exchange, Bank Street in the Village by the Magnolia Bakery

Washington Square benches and arch, see the empire state building 20 blocks away in the back ground

Times Square and the theater district

The Statue of Liberty as seen from the Circle Line cruise around the island we took

Brooklyn Bridge shots from the cruise

City Views from the Cruise

Views from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building

Les Miserable, the Manhattan Temple and the Empire State Building

Little Italy and Central Park

New York Part 2

Steve and I went to so many museums. Some we're better than others but all we're memorable. Here is some of the great art and things we got to see.
Unfortunately the Guggenheim prohibited photography above the ground level but here we are inside the rotunda.

At the Met we saw lots of cool modern art, here is Steve with a Warhol and a Georgia O'Keefe, also my favorite sculpture, Brandisi's, Bird in Flight. The Met has lots of cool impressionists pieces and a great photography area but those were under construction so we couldn't see them.

The Museum of Modern Art was definately our favorite. Her are 2 Picasso's and a Chagall.

There was actually a huge swarm around the Starry Night and it had its own security guard, Go Van Gogh! More Warhol and the tree is Klimt.

More of the Modern Museum of Art, me looking at a Pollock, some graphic print I loved but didn't remember to look at the artists name and this huge wall art, also forgot the name.
Steve and I definately loved this museum the best!

New York Part 1

Steve and I had the luck of going to New York City for our honeymoon. We had so much fun and really got to see a lot of the city since we were there for nine days. Our hotel, the Hotel Pennsylvania, was located in the heart of midtown right across the street from Madison Square Garden and a couple of blocks south of Times Square. We were also right next to the subway so getting around was a piece of cake.

Our first day we spent in Brooklyn and it was so much fun. We went to the Brooklyn Museum or Art and the Botanical Garden. We saw lots of quaint tree lined streets, something right out of the Cosby Show, good pizza at Grimaldi's and a lovely sunset walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. What a great frist day.

Steve and I on the Pier at the base of the bridge, it really is such a wonderful walk

Street in Brooklyn Heights, Steve and I at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Japanese Pond. Grimaldi's Pizza, yummy, coal fired pizza with fresh mozzarella and basil.

Steve at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. The cool exhibit at the museum showing how they store all their permanent collection. Very Cool.

Abridged to Death...

Recently Steve and I started getting really excited about our future trip to New York City. We're going there on our honeymoon and we're going to see Les Miserable on Broadway. We got all excited and downloaded the soundtrack and had it stuck in our heads and I started rereading the novel by Hugo which I hadn't read since 10th grade.

I am sad to say that the copy I had on hand was sadly abridged down into nothing. They left out everything involving Fantine, everything about Javert's past. I was king of upset about it. I know the original is some 1000 pages of deep characterization that goes on forever meshed with descriptive passages and passages about light and dark and Parisian sewers but come on. I felt like I had betrayed my honors English teacher and my degree by reading something that was pretty much unrecognizable as literature. I just think its sad that people would want the story instead of the art.

Did you know that Victor Hugo's middle name was Marie?

Domestic Goodness

We got a new fridge! Yeah for cooperative landlords who actually care about their tenants.

We pay $475 for rent which is a steal despite the olive green counter tops, black mold hidden under our poorly grouted shower and the toilet that would not stop running until Steve got so fed up we fixed it ourselves.
Married life is fun, its fun having a whole apartment to ourselves and crazy enough I actually love being domestic. Maybe because it is a novelty but I plan out weekly menus, love cleaning and am constantly thinking about how to make our space even more functional and cute. I think a lot of people look down on housekeeping and being domestic as an old-fashioned thing that only old frumpy women do but I am here to say that being domestic can be raised to an artform. Why not take pride in a clean tub or a delicious cheesecake?

I think it helps that my husband is remarkabley clean and helpful around the house. His latest accomplishment being doing half of our wedding gift thank yous. I truly am so lucky, it makes me want to be the best for him.
