It is written

This weekend was pretty good. Steve and I went and saw a french film noir at the BYU International Cinema on Friday night, Bob Le Flambeur. "Bob the Gambler" I thought it was okay. Robert Duchesne was excellent as Bob and he reminded me a lot of Cary Grant in his later films, hints of handsome-ness and expert timing. The girl was everything french you could want. I think the reason I didn't love it was because last week we saw Rififi and it was amazing.

Saturday morning I had to attend a regional Girl's Camp Clinic. 1000 women with no diet coke, I thought it was doomed from the start but it got me all excited about camp again which is good because I was starting to feel a little cynical about this calling. And I relearned how to use a compass and have a sudden urge to cook with a ducth oven...

Then Steve and I caught a matinee of Slumdog Millionaire.

GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!

Amazing. I loved it. And I kept waiting for something "R Rated" to jump out at me, nothing ever came. I mean don't get me wrong the content is intense considering the plot line of a slumdog who experiences an incredibly hard life.

It brings such a message of hope and honesty. Yeah, life is hard but not impossible.
Its a beautiful movie, so beautiful, I am having a hard time saying anything eloquent enough to do it justice. The music, the cinematography, the vivid colors and powerful desire to live, not for money but for love.

I think I liked it better than Benjamin Button.

Sunday was the usual with SuperBowl watching (Poor Cardinals) and cupcake making and Step Up 2-the Streets which is a lame movie with good dancing.

Hi Stefanie!

Cake Wreck dot Blogspot

Whitney tipped me off to this awesome blog about professional cakes gone wrong. It is HILARIOUS and worth at least 4 minutes of your time. Plus the commentary is excellent.

Here are some of my favorites.
From todays post about redneck weddings...

From a post that is just sad. Big Day, Big Wrecks where she examines what was ordered:

vs what was delivered

I mean it looks like poop. Yuck. I would have been pissed and very bridezilla if this showed up at my reception.

Other good posts. Click each link.

Just some ramblings...

Okay so I just have a few random thoughts so it definitely calls for a brain dump.

1. I am excited for the new president, yes I voted for him. But I think it is sad that we're so proud of ourselves as a country for overcoming these racial prejudices. Look how far we've come... That aside its hard to ignore the historical significance of this inauguration week and I am excited to see whats to come. Also I hope everyone can be patient and realistic since change takes time especially considering the mess we've gotten ourselves into.

2. LOST returned last night! And its back with all its mysteries. Steve and I watched the preshow where they recapped the whole series to date and also promised to start answering questions instead of posing them. We'll see if they can live up to the promise considering we watched 2 hours of episode last night and are still a little confused. Moving an island? John dies? Ben is still evil even though for a second I thought he wasn't? The weird ring seller is back? Oh and on more Fox news, Hell's Kitchen comes back next week! Bring on the unnecessary and belittling profanity!

3. We bought a Wii Fit and I love it. Yes, that's right I have worked out every morning this week before work and I feel great. Hopefully I can keep it up. I think the motivation of the Wii telling me, verbally and honestly, if I am heavier than last time I stepped on is key. Its like having a scale that tells you you shouldn't have eaten that donut. Oh and I am determined to get back into shape before we go to Peru because I don't want to die whilst exploring Machu Piccu, apparently its all stairs. Those darn Incas and their physical fitness...

4. They released the nomination list for the Academy Awards. I can't wait to watch it!

I must be addicted to painting...

Well if you have been following my blog for awhile you will note that I get restless and am always doing something especially when it comes to our apartment. Once again I was tired of the paint in our bedroom and Steve hated our headboard so I decided to mix it up a bit.

Remember that this is what our room looked like before...

And this is what it looks like now. I repainted everything in grey, this time it is grey and NOT blue like our living room. Then instead of replacing the headboard I just painted a purple headboard onto the wall and I love it. I originally was thinking I wanted to hang something centered in the middle of the purple but now I can't decide, I just haven't had the time to play around with it yet. And you can't really tell in the picture but the stripe really makes the room look bigger and taller. Also I updated the lamps. I have been looking for lamps for awhile and of course everything I like is way expensive so I remembered some HGTV show where they made their own lamps. So after diligently searching and hunting, I found the perfect vases for the project. And after one really frustrated hour and then a week to cool off, I finally got them put together last night.
And actually it was pretty simple after the initial frustration of being my own electrician wore off.

Why does everything have to end with Sarah McLachlan?

I know I have been posting a lot lately. I feel kind of like a loser because of it. But I know that some of you sit at your desks too and understand and appreciate the reads.

The Orem Public Library has really come through for me of late. They have been able to produce all 4 seasons of Felicity, most miraculously the final season which I just finished last night.
Why does everything end with Sarah McLachlan? The last few days of my high school were strewn with her songs and I know it is indicative of the early 2000’s but come on. As soon as it started playing during the last 2 minutes of the series where they are all laughing at Noel’s wedding, I’m sorry but I rolled my eyes. The whole finale was pretty disappointing. Obviously they ran out of plot because why else would they have Meghan do a spell to send Felicity back in time, where which she chooses Noel, Noel dies and Felicity gets put in a crazy ward. I’ll tell you why they did it? So they could cop out on a finale by flashing back to the whole series with clips-like one of those sitcom episodes where they have run over budget. Also so Felicity can realize that she is supposed to forgive Ben for cheating on her with Claire, who is Claire you might ask? Don’t ask.

Overall though, I enjoyed the series. And I have to say my favorite character was definitely Meghan. I love how she trades her goth to 60’s inspired clothing. And I will forever end my Felicity phase with a quote from her:

Sean: What’s it like living with Felicity?
Meghan: It’s like living with a tv. (Pause) That only shows Little House on the Prairie (Pause) but with more sweaters.
