Vegas.

Finally VEGAS! Yes, we stayed at the Bellagio.

(The view from our room)

For the last weekend of the summer I kidnapped Steve to a surprise weekend in Vegas. I wanted to go somewhere cooler but Vegas is the closest thing available that isn't the Provo Marriot. We had a view of the Bellagio Fountains and it was particularly amazing at night because all you had to do was turn on the TV to the fountain channel and you could hear the song that went with the show. The hotel was pretty much the nicest place both of us had stayed. Everything was just so grand and not like trashy Vegas. The room had these linens, curtains controlled by light switches by the bed and of course a huge tub and glass shower. I am such a sucker for the nice hotel bathroom.
(The view from our room)
We also went and saw KA, the Cirque du Soleil
show. It was so cool. Lots of martial arts, this intense floating stage that moved and became a wall. Its hard to explain but it was magical. The thing I remember most was this scene where two of the travelers create these amazing shadow puppets. Also there was this awesome trapeze/dance thing. Really cool stuff. If you've never seen a Cirque show, I highly recommend it. Overall the weekend was nice because it was just great to spend a lot of time with Steve before school started.
(On the strip, its supposed to be NY, NY in the background)

Girls Camp 2008, 4th of July, Vegas and Various Other Items

So I know this is shamefully delayed but oh well. I think the main thing that has been keeping me from blogging is that I am so behind I feel like I am never going to catch up. So we'll whirlwind it.

The fourth of July was great. It really is one of my favorite holidays. I love too that we are so close to the stadium of fire. Its one of the things I love about Utah. Instead of spending lots of money to see Miley, we just camped out in our secret viewing spot in Helaman Halls. The view is spectacular and you are literally right under the fireworks. I still felt that totally childish feeling that they were going to drop on me. Thats how close we were. Steve and I got there early concerned about parking and that someone would have already staked out our spot. We got there too early so we decided to kill time with my camera and tripod. We're total goofballs but it was really fun. Then after what seemed like forever (apparently Miley was way late), the show started and it was all worth it.
Next up...Girls Camp.

So Girls Camp was both great and not so great. I felt pretty prepared. I did tons of cute little Asian themed handouts to go with our Olympics girls camp. Someone came up with the idea of "One Heart, One Mind, Different Voices" for the theme which of course was completely abandoned in any of the programs for camp.
(Girls being ninjas. Yes, their shirts say faith in chinese, they were the faith ninjas. Yes I looked the character faith up online, yes I had its accuracy checked. No, we never learned how to say it)

Our ward decided on Taiwan as our country, I would have personally never chosen this but I made it work. We had Chinese fans, chopsticks, fried rice and all the other cliche Asian accessories complete with ninja headbands and hand drawn fonts by me. See Pictures.
(Girls as stealth ninjas)
(This Picture is to illustrate two things: 1) the cute handwriting I did for the asian themed shirts 2) they made us play these olympic themed games and relays. This one was both dangerous-a girl sprained her ankle and had to go home-and a nightmare for any teenage girl self conscious about her weight. I would have cringed at doing this as a youth)(Our "kitchen" of sorts. Note the happy colorful banners stenciled with faith in chinese. I also discovered that I was the tallest person in our ward by hitting my head on the center of the tent every day, a couple of times a meal. I tried very hard not to swear and succeeded)

Overall I think the girls had a good time, they liked me most of the times. Times they didn't like me included: in the morning when I had to wake them up, when I had to take away contraband i-pods, when it came to cleaning the biffies. Can you believe there was a girl who had never cleaned a toilet before? Yeah they made a skit about me. The other leaders liked that I had a no nonsense drill sergeant of a personality. Whatever works, right? (The prettiness of the place blew my mind. I mean overall utah is pretty blah but this place was amazing. There were these awesome mountains, and the most beautiful weather and this pretty pond they called a lake. Also there were tons of deer. When I first got there, there was one in our campsite about 10 feet away)

(This was our cabin, pretty nice for roughing it. I slept on a plastic pool lounge chair and was very comfortable except when I had nightmares about mice and other rodents. Also one of the cabins had a bat problem. I was kind of disappointed in the other wards, no one decorated their sites at all. I guess thats what you get from a crafty camp leader-me. )

Overall it was good except for my incredibly uneven tan thanks to the long pants rule and my wacky sleeve tan. See my burned nose below.
The last night of course is the testimony meeting and then pranks. When the girls went out pranking, the leaders did a little pranking as well. We put lots of weird things in their sleeping bags and partied up their loft.

Media Update!

Okay so I am caught up in my TV after girl's camp. For Project Runway, my favorites are Kenley, she did the tight dress with the high collar this week, Suede, he won the challenge with the woven fabric dress and I also like Kelly, she is the blonde with a funky girly style. I think Blaine is annoying and that he is trying to make himself like Christian, the winner from last year.
Yeah Aaron for winning The Next Food Network Star. I knew he could do it.
We also saw The Dark Knight and loved it. And Wall-E too.

California In A NutShell With Lots of Pictures

Okay so it was like a month in the making but I finally got around to blogging about our trip to california. Steve and I set out on Wednesday night and stopped in Mesquite, NV(the almost halfway mark) and stayed at the Oasis Hotel and Casino. Honestly, it wasn't the worst place we've stayed, especially for $30 a night with free breakfast buffet. We got in late, pretty much just relaxed and I saw my first cockroach ever-luckily not in the room.
The next day we left early, got to LA and only got semi lost once. We were going to be staying with my aunt and uncle in Culver City, an awesome suburb of LA and the perfect middle ground for all our sightseeing. We spent the first afternoon in Santa Monica at the Pier.
We took the ferris wheel up to see the pretty scenery.

Then we walked along the pier and saw all the people and birds and I loved being near the ocean again. I am so a coastal girl.

Cindy and Tim on the pier.
The next day Steve and I went all through LA, mostly shopping at H&M and Amoeba music, also we went to china town, the garment district and in the evening we drove through Beverly Hills and Bel-Air. It was cool to see all the huge houses. That night we headed over to the Getty Museum-granted a little late-for a concert featuring No Age, a local indie band. The concert was free and so was admission and we arrived way late due to a mishap in parking. We did see our one and only celebrity. Steve spotted Jaleel White, AKA Steve Urkel from Family Matters. Not totally crazy but still, its something.
Saturday we spent in Disneyland and California Adventure. My uncle works for Disney through ESPNradio and he got us in for free. Our favorite rides were Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain and the new Toy Story arcade game in 3D. We went on that one twice and I beat Steve both times! I also loved the water rapids ride in California Adventure but Steve got so wet, it was kind of a bummer.
Oh cool tidbit, there is a secret club in Disneyland. Its a restaurant that you have to be a member or know a member to even get a reservation in. This is the door leading to it, Club 33. its located in New Orlean's Square right next to that restaurant where you can eat in the Pirate's of the Caribbean ride.
Sunday morning we went back to the Getty for an hour before heading south to San Diego where my grandpa lives.

The Getty was gorgeous and free so if you are in LA, there is no excuse, go see it. In San Diego, we spent time with my grandparent's, parent's and we went to the beach where we both got a little too much sun.
Overall, the trip was so fun and hopefully we can get back down there again and do all the stuff we didn't have time to do before.

Media Overload

So I know I still owe you guys posts about our CA trip and the fourth of July but I am just not in the mood yet. Sorry. But on the other hand I want to share some of recent finds in books, music and tv.

What I am listening to:So fun and dancy especially in the car
What I am reading:
What we are watching on tv:
Don't judge me that I actually voted for a dance crew on this show, twice. And who doesn't love an AC Slater appearance now and then.
I hope Aaron wins, not Kelsey or Adam. And I kind of wish Lisa would stop crying
Thanks to this show I did well in my california shopping trips, choosing straight legged pants and age appropriate tops. Is anyone else annoyed of the current champion? I am. I hope Joan kicks him off tonight. I can feel you judging me, stop it.
